Upgrading Gateway Agent
This section explains how to upgrade your Gateway Agent components to a later version.
Upgrade Recommendations
Before an upgrade, it is recommended to follow these steps:
Create a backup of configuration files, located in
/etc/relayr
.Change the logging verbosity to
TRACE
. Restart your Gateway Agent components and gather logs from several seconds of work before the upgrade. Then, perform the upgrade and compare logs with the ones you have saved before.
After the update, change the logging level back to MAJOR (4), so as not to consume too much memory of your edge device.
The Gateway Agent team always tests the upgrade procedure manually each time a new Gateway Agent version is released. If you want to upgrade the previous minor version to the next one (e.g. from 1.6 to 1.7), the upgrade has been tested and is proven to be safe.
Upgrade Procedure
To check for updates and upgrade your Gateway Agent components, follow these steps:
- Update the package list:
sudo apt-get update
- Check for updates:
sudo apt list --upgradable gwa-*
- Upgrade the selected packages:
sudo apt-get install <package_name>
Here is an example how to upgrade the Modbus Protocol Adapter:
sudo apt-get install gwa-modbus-adapter-c
To verify the update, check the component versions:
sudo apt list gwa-*`
Alternatively, you can also use the installation script to upgrade your Gateway Agent components. The script always installs the latest Gateway Agent version. If an older version is already installed, the installer upgrades it to the latest version.
